After noticing a lot of people recommending online shopping, with discounts and so much more, I did an independent research about online shopping and shopping locally, from outside of Malta
I evaluated an article form Aljazeera: ''Christmas Creep: Amazon bumps shopping season up with Prime Day''. According to an International Council of Shopping Centers cited that more than 3/4 consumers aim to purchase earlier this year that the previous year. 175,000 people were employed by Amazon previously this year. This article mainly mentions Prime Day. It is an every year deal event entirely for prime members, distributing two days of exceptional savings on mass of items. Many retailers have tried to get people to purchase over the holidays by contributing deals early and giving a wide collection of offers. This is a direct quote that was included in this article; “Amazon Prime Day is going to kick off the holiday season and holiday shopping for many consumers,”. The was stated by Chip Bergh, who is the chief executive officer of Levi Strauss & Co.
I also evaluated an article form the magazine called 'Start Ups Magazine'. The article is written by Anna Flockett and it is mainly about that the traditional retail is dead. The Covid-19 pandemic affected many industries, especially the industry of fashion. Due to this reason there were more people buying online, rather that going face to face in shops. She also mentioned that she started her first business called; the shirt society. The idea originated from costumers that used to talk to Anna. They wanted something different, something worth it and efficient for them to order. She also pointed out that there is no problem with regards to sizes. Members know they can get 1 shirt, 1 polo or 2 shirts per month for the same fixed price of £29.95 . There is a potential growth in this business. Anna Flockett's goal is to reach to 1000 members. Their focus is to build 10,000 members by July 2021.
After analyzing these two articles, I wanted to mainly focus on the Maltese society. I decided to create a study to analyze whether the Maltese citizens prefer online shopping or shopping locally. I did a quantitative survey.
